In the process of sculpting/refining my music compositionally, I've also realized that I'd like to be a kick-ass performer...to get closer to presenting the story honestly with my entire being, to the fullest degree off the page. I mean, obviously I've been performing in some style of my own up to this point, but now I'm hungry to activate the margin in me that hasn't yet been activated.
I want my performance to hit further than imagination of each individual listening - I want it to be real and in the room and shared by everyone in the room and friggin grab you and not let you go! (ha - obviously New York is having its effect on me!) as opposed to a daydream that each audience member has separately while they are listening. You know?
I am happy to feel aware of this new challenge - the new margin - and it also makes me excited that I have at least reached a stage with my pieces where I can lift my brain off the page and think about the music in the performance context - beyond the compositional context.
Anyhow, so that's the news... performance & entering the new margin:
