In the process of sculpting/refining my music compositionally, I've also realized that I'd like to be a kick-ass performer...to get closer to presenting the story honestly with my entire being, to the fullest degree off the page. I mean, obviously I've been performing in some style of my own up to this point, but now I'm hungry to activate the margin in me that hasn't yet been activated.

I want my performance to hit further than imagination of each individual listening - I want it to be real and in the room and shared by everyone in the room and friggin grab you and not let you go! (ha - obviously New York is having its effect on me!) as opposed to a daydream that each audience member has separately while they are listening. You know?

I am happy to feel aware of this new challenge - the new margin - and it also makes me excited that I have at least reached a stage with my pieces where I can lift my brain off the page and think about the music in the performance context - beyond the compositional context.

On a power of performance note - I am BUMMED to not be able to attend the Jill Scott show at Radio City Music Hall Jun 13 & 14. (Mikki, I have been jealous of your tickets for weeks!!!!! Can't wait to hear how it was!) Tix for the NY show are not in the budget right now & it is killing me!! Jill's got the margin down!!!

And on a Jill performance note, I also continually appreciate that moment in Dave Chappelle's Block Party, after she is talking about her deep appreciation for Erykah Badu and then the camera man asks her if knowing all of that makes her nervous to perform for the Block Party, and she turns to the camera and smiles and says in the best way "Have you seen me perform?" YES!

Also, Dayna Stephens. He's having his CD Release Party @ Yoshi's in Oakland on Monday. This is another show that is killing me not to be at!!! Damn these artists that I love and not being able to see them perform - this show better be sold out or I will never forgive the Bay Area...seriously, if you live in the Bay Area and you don't go to this show and I know you, I will be mad at you. Buy tickets here.

Anyhow, so that's the news... performance & entering the new margin:
